About the Instructor : LIONEL CHOK
Lionel has many years of experience in screenwriting, producing, directing and even editing. He was producer for the acclaimed Heritage series which was a finalist for Best Documentary in the New York Festivals in 1998 and a nominee for Best Documentary at the Asian Television Awards in the same year.

In 2001, Lionel’s self-funded documentary Geraldine about a local tour guide, premiered as an official selection in the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. Some of his other short films – shot on both film and video –were also exhibited in Singapore and New York.

Also in 2001, after completing an Intensive Directing Workshop at New York University and witnessing the Sept 11 attacks in New York, he decided to pursue his passion for storytelling, and expanded his portfolio to theatre. Over the last 3 years, he wrote, directed and also acted in Nonsensical Idiosyncrasies 1 & 2, Hearing Voices, Threesome, Adultery, and Swingle a musical with original music by Iskandar Ismail – all staged to full houses and positive responses from audiences.

His Hi-Definition short film Crossroad - which won the Audience’s Choice Award in the Digital Film Fiesta 2006 (by Panasonic and Media Development Authority of Singapore) – has also travelled to film festivals.

Lionel is an Associate Artist (Film) of the Substation – Home of the Arts.
